the last time i changed my number (a few years ago) i specifically cut off family members outside of my aunt. somehow patti and my mother would always end up with my cell number and would proceed to drive me nuts.

it helps that there’s a home phone (which i do not use) that they can call and leave messages on so that they aren’t constantly badgering dar for my number. going through the answering machine and listening to their madness can be frustrating, but it is FAR easier than dealing with the people themselves.

i realize they are mentally ill and can’t really be blamed for their actions, but i am extremely vindictive and have a hard time holding my tongue. having that barrier between us, as opposed to direct communication, allows me to release my anger by yelling and screaming back at their recordings, but they never have to hear me and are spared those reactions.

i understand this isn’t really the same situation you’re going through, and i don’t actually know what all you’ve done to prevent your dad from contacting you, but i would definitely consider talking to your grandma or whoever and ask them not to give out your number in the future. and possibly changing your name in their phones if it comes to it, in case he tries to obtain it without permission. (side note: it may be interesting to note that he does not keep your number elsewhere other than in his phones, and relies on others to keep giving it to him. i’m not sure whether that’s of any importance though…)

the main obstacle i can see in this is that you are much more connected to your family than i am to mine. i really only have to defend myself to darlene, and she has been more or less understanding and supportive of my actions. if i had other family members (i.e. allen) to answer to, it would be much harder to sever these ties and KEEP them severed—everyone is sympathetic and will try to convince you that your dad loves you and wants to change. there MAY be some truth to that, but everyone has torn relations in their past that they wish could be healed. it is likely they wouldn’t feel the same way if they had experienced his shittiness from your point of view.

your dad seems to fluctuate between wanting to make amends and simply being selfish and hurtful, and severing ties with him by no means makes you a “spiteful ass”. all he has shown you in the past is that he will not and cannot change. the difficulties lie in the kindess you possess and the guilt that you feel.

i’m pretty cynical about this though so maybe just consider me the id to your familys superego or whatever and take each side with a grain of salt?

ミラクルミュージカル - “The Mind Electric” (Distortions + Reverse)

Top track is the first, undistorted half of The Mind Electric, reversed. Bottom track is the 2nd, distorted half, played forward.

Wherever there are prolonged distortions I inserted silence into the top track to keep it aligned with the bottom. There’s probably a legit way to do this in Audacity, but I just eyeballed it.

I’m really not sure what this accomplishes, but listening to them simultaneously is pretty satisfying.

Top track is in the right channel if you’re listening through headphones (sorry the cuts are so abrupt, I didn’t attempt anything fancy).

Saw the lawyer again today.

We didn’t lose the house when Grampa died, despite Gramma’s name not being on it. We’re opening a case through probate so it can pass from him to her. Trouble is, despite the house being a piece of crap we won’t be able to keep it after Gramma passes. Darlene doesn’t want it, and Allen doesn’t want it, but I grew up here and I like living here. Unfortunately I know my mom and Patti are both going to fight me for it, at which point it will have to be sold for what little money it’s worth, which can then be divided amongst us.

Grampa, though deceased, is finally on Medicaid, which took care of his enormous nursing home bill. But we still have that outrageous pharmacy bill to deal with, which is still increasing due to finance charges. The bill was so ridiculous because they had no insurance on file for Grampa, but every time I tried to give them his insurance info they refused to bill the company. Every time we contacted the insurance company they had no information on Grampa, but I have all their monthly billing statements and the automatic payments were never interrupted. What’s more, they were notified of his death in August and they’re STILL billing us!

And then there are other things that’re stressing me out but thinking about it is making me tired. I’mma go lie down or something

NiGHTS Into Dreams--PSN

When I was ten I basically played the shit out of two games on my Saturn; Sonic 3D Blast and NiGHTS Into Dreams.

Started playing them again a couple years ago with a PS2 controller using an emulator. Naturally I bought the NiGHTS sequel for the Wii, titled “Journey of Dreams”. Hated it. Hated the stories, hated the talking, never touched it again—though lately I’ve been thinking I should give it another shot, either to see whether it was really that bad and I was just having a hipster moment, or to really pinpoint the things that pissed me off so much.

Anyway at like 12:15 last night I searched for it on PSN and it wasn’t there. I didn’t know if there was a time when these things were usually made available, so I basically kept refreshing it every 45 minutes until about 6am, my usual bedtime. Was gone all day today and got home a little after midnight, at which point I searched, purchased, and waited a couple hours for it to download/install.

After starting the game I was pleased to see the same old title screen, same nightmares, et cetera. Looks like they tried to clean up some lines but aside from that the preview nightmares were graphically identical to that of the Saturn. Really kind of a testament to how sweet that console was. After hitting start you’re given the options “Brand New Dreams” and “Sega Saturn Dreams”. I hadn’t read anything about there being new dreams and I was here for nostalgic reasons so I selected the Saturn dreams.

(Btw, initially thought I’d have to play with the old aspect-ratio, which was fine by me. But I damn near had a heart attack thinking I’d have to play the whole game with that stupid wallpaper. Thank you for the option to full-screen!)

I played Spring Valley really quick (A’s on each course, B overall for smacking my face into Gillwing’s tail) then went to see what “Brand New Dreams” was all about, thinking they’d included some cool new levels or something. Nope, just the Saturn levels again, but they tried to redo the graphics.

I’m still not sure how I feel about them. The look of the chips and Ideya Captures is pretty bad, not to mention the characters themselves, but it initially sounded like they changed the music, something to which I was strictly opposed. However, after my first lap around (Spring Valley, a second time) I no longer noticed the graphics and the music was the same stuff, remastered. It sounded awesome.

I got my A on Spring Valley, texted my initial reactions to Paul, then typed those same reactions here.

Overall, the game play is the same, but SO MUCH SMOOTHER on a dualshock controller. I am INCREDIBLY pleased.

Today was another one of those days where something really tiny happens and I suddenly want to sever ties with everyone and quit my job and move far away. And I’m fuming for like an hour before I finally think to ask myself whether I might be PMSing, and then realize that I probably am.

And then after a couple more hours spent going back and forth in my head about whatever-it-was that pissed me off, everything turns out okay. Once again, I was just being a crazy bitch.
